Ok... So Now Designers Connect is Over.... What Next?!

Yes.... I'm sure many of you have been asking this question and wondering why I've been so silent re Designers Connect.  Apologies... I haven't been slacking.... I have actually been busy trying to work on the FEC 1 and of course, trying to devise a plan on how to move Designers Connect to the next stage....

So what next you ask?!

Happy Belated Birthday to Me! :-D

No I did not forget my birthday... How could I?!  BUT I spent the better part of my day  driving up and down Lagos & was at Oja Ara.  Quite a hectic day and I apologise to you all for missing your calls, and responding to your birthday wishes only today.  In fact I'm not done yet... still responding to them...

The Best Birthday Gift! The Success of the Very 1st Fashion Entrepreneurship Course!

(taken from a participant's BB display picture...)

I TOLD you guys FEC1 would be FAB!!!  If you weren't there, you missed out on a whole lot!

Let me give a quick run through of what the day was like.

We started at 12 SHARP!  Had the 1st presentation on the Career & Business Opportunities in the Fashion Industry.  Extremely interactive session!  THEN we had the guest facilitators, Victor Diali and Fredrick Okeagu teaching us how to  "Discover the Designer in You" using the Insights Colour Energies.  Wow!  What a HIT!  Then we concluded with a very short presentation on "The Design & Production Process".  WHAT can I say!  That was the icing on the cake! :-D  All in all a VERY FAB DAY and I have the "anonymously completed" training feedback forms to prove it.

Oh-kay... don't want to give myself too much props.  You check out the pictures and errrrr.... promise yourself to come for FEC Vol. 2!  Sadly I have only pictures from the 2nd module.  I forgot to put the SD card into the camera...  Only realized much later and then the battery went flat :-(

But all the same, enjoy the pictures... and the smiles... I know I did! :-D

What the Fashion Entrepreneurship Course (Vol. 1) Is About...

Goodness I've been so busy these past few days with calls, BB messages, smses et all all as a result of Designers Connect & the launch of my new ad on Bella Naija re the FEC 1.  It's been absolutely fab!  Thanks a lot for the prayers, the encouragement, etc.

Most of the calls have been with respect to what participants should expect during the Course, how much it costs (seeing we somehow missed out the course fees on the flyer) and oh.... haha, how can I forget... if I am genuine lol. People @ Designers Connect... please help me tell them I am genuine please!!!

Okies... so here I am explaining what the Course is about...

Pictures from Designers Connect

Okies.... many people have been asking for the pictures and I have also been eager to see pictures and videos from the gathering.  Well... I have both but creating a short video from the 2+ hours would be quite a task...and will definitely not be today but I will do.... very soon...

Here they are...:-D  There are over 100 pictures so I just picked some out.  I'll add more later...  I'll also try to introduce some of the invited guests (by no means in no order of importance please...).

                                                         That's me ;-)

So Designers Connect was a HUGE success! 150 people and counting...

Yup!  I am elated!

The session took place at Trends the Kitchen in Lekki Phase 1 (view www.trends the kitchen.com), a stunning bar and lounge right by the 2nd roundabout (sorry to those who missed their way...) and there was enough space for everyone.  I am completely honoured that some people came in from outside town.  I had someone in from Abuja, another from Port Harcourt & one from Ilorin.  Someone was flying in from Benin but got delayed.  I am so thankful that you all plugged into this and it is very encouraging.  And I apologise to those who missed their way.  Unfortunately I couldn't pick any calls because the event started @ 3 sharp... [actually 3.10pm seeing I had a wardrobe malfunction at 2.55pm and I had to change into the same buba and skirt I had planned on wearing all along.  Turned out the outfit was a huge hit! :-D]

Countdown to Designers Connect :-D

Okay!  Designers Connect is just over a day away and I am quite overwhelmed by the response I have gotten so far and the kind words.  It has been like WOW!  Looks like we will have quite a number of people there...

Here's me saying huge thank you to everyone who took the time to send in an RSVP for the event.  And thank you for your candid statements about your challenges in the industry.  It helped a lot to shape my idea for this meeting and I tried to address as many as I could in my acknowledgement of the receipt of the mail.

I have sent out the details of the venue by sms to those who sent in their RSVPs (is that even a word?!).  If you did send in one and have not received the sms, please buzz me immediately and let me know so I can forward it to you.  I tried to ensure I didn't miss out anyone....but then again... I'm only human after all so please bear with me... :-)

So right people!  If you'll excuse me, I have to finish churning the skirt I plan to wear tomorrow before PHCN strikes which ...errr.... they just did! :-l  If I had my way, I'd just wear my buba and skirt but my staff have asked me to create something and seeing we are a team, I decided to listen.  Forget the fact that I am making the simplest outfit ever! One even went an extra mile to ask me to "grow my hair" and I was like.... Dude!  That's enough out of you!  Don't take a mile when you've been given an inch!

SO anywayz, have a great day ahead people and see you on Sunday!

Cheers!

The Birth of Niki Biwati....

Ok so on Sunday the 12th of Feb, I attended the mini-launch of a student's clothing line.  Now THIS really is a live example of how passion + determination + investment in the right knowledge [my Foundation Course in Fashion Design :-D] translates into turning one's love for fashion into a business reality!

SO I get a call from a lady who says she received a broadcast about my course and told me she has always had a love for it.  I said... go for it!  Attend my class and I guarantee you, after the first level, you can take that step.  And she did.  And after only 6 lectures, (which is pretty much the 6 Saturdays the Foundation Course in Fashion Design - Level 1a lasts for), a complete beginner with no prior experience in fashion, but her love for it and a folder filled with information, went straight ahead, put a production team together and developed her own clothing line in a matter of weeks!  How did she do that?!  She understood the principles and the process involved... and that is what I teach in my classes.  Oh... of course...now she can also sew a skirt! :-D

Here's her story which she titled "The Birth of Niki Biwati..."

Ok.... So it JUST Occurred To Me That I Had Not Formally Launched the Designers Connect Ad on this Blog. Here It Is...

Guess my heading says it all..... haha

Here's the formal launch of the Designers Connect ad....

Ok.... which other instrument can I use apart form the drums??? Cymbals perhaps?!  That should work!

So here goes.... (Loud clashing cymbals please........)

Just so y'all know, I obtained permission from one of the ladies in the picture before using the image on the flyer.
 Thanks a lot Ayo....

"Thank you!  Thank you!  You're far too kind!" a la Jay Z & Linkin Park... :-D

And really... thank you for the overwhelming response.  I cannot thank you enough!  Don't forget...

Happy Valentine's Day People!!!!!!!

Stunning image right?!  It was designed and hand-painted by one of my current students (and a student of Babcock University), Layo, in the spirit of the...err... "season".  Amazing chic with such a sweet personality!  I am completely amazed by her dedication to fashion.  Would you believe she comes from Babcock every weekend just to attend my Saturday classes?!  Just goes to show that when there's a will there's a way.  And I feel honoured!  That is someone that's willing to go through a lot to achieve a dream!

Why I Relaunched a New Ad for the Fashion Entrepreneurship Course (FEC) 1

Ok so y'all LOVED the initial flyer I put up formally announcing the Fashion Entrepreneurship Course.  In fact I was so in love with that flyer I just kept staring at it because I could not believe my search for the perfect graphic designer was finally over!  So if it was so FAB then why take it off right?!  And no it was not because of the white girl on the cover that most of you hassled me about.  In fact I loved the fact that the image gave the flyer an international feel... and of course we all want to be players on the international scene right?! ;-)

So why withdraw it right?!  I'll tell you just now...

Slight Change in Plans re "Designers Connect"... Same Date, Different Venue, New Registration Details!

RIGHT!

First let me thank all those who have expressed interest in attending "Designers Connect".  It really is encouraging and it looks like the breath of fresh air we all need to air our views.

HOWEVER... there's been a slight change in plans...  NO NO... don't panic.  It still holds on Sunday, the 19th of February, 2012 BUT the venue has changed.  It will no longer take place at Federal Palace Hotel for various reasons, one being space constraint.  Initially, I was a bit bummed but you know what?!  It was for the best.  I was worried that I would have to limit the number of people to the maximum they would allow and I really did not want to do that.  After driving for 9 hours yesterday all over the Island, I finally found the perfect venue!  In fact I have like 2 or 3 options but one's really the best!

Welcome to February!!! My Month of ...errr... Birth... :-D

....and the birth of 2 great projects, an appearance at a 3rd and others...

Yup!  Spot on!  Me to the core.  A true fiery red personality!  Dunno about the superstitious though... but there is definitely one vital quality missing... sexy! (I dare you to disagree!) ;-)

But anywayz... my birthday is February 26th.  Yes yes!  However.... rather than relaxing, I will be working.  I'm making plans to be at Oja Ara - Market of Wonders.  Haven't paid though... but I will.  Nonetheless, I expect you all to wish me Happy Birthday and send my gifts...words, prayers, tangible gifts, you name it, I'll accept it with a grateful heart!  But you know what the best gift to me will be?  A full class for my Fashion Entrepreneurship Course the day before.  I'm so excited!  It's long overdue!

So yes! On to my projects!
