Welcome Note!

Welcome to T.Williams! Yes this is a fashion blog, no excuses for that, BUT we will be talking about fashion from a different perspective... as a tool for business success!

Everyone loves to look good and yes, majority of us love fashion! But we all know that fashion goes wayyyyy beyond stitching and there is a lot more to "it" than mere sewing!

SO

"Fashion Beyond Stitches" will discuss how to turn your love for fashion into money-spinners, sharing knowledge, ideas and skills necessary to run successful fashion businesses.

Oh of course this blog will not be complete without our very own T.Williams ranting and raving about her personal challenges as a fashion entrepreneur in the Nigerian Fashion Industry. But don't worry, there are also happy days and all her personal stuff will be filed under the label "T.Williams".

SO enjoy, follow & subscribe to our blog, post your comments, ask questions, offer advice, and spread the link! Cheers!

Halfway Through MFC1a...

Amazing how time flies right?!  One minute I was planning my calendar for the 2012, then I was worried about the Foundation Course starting at all because of the strike and now we are already halfway through the Course!!!  And there is a break this weekend!  Phew!  It's been really hectic but I am thankful!  Thankful that 2012 started on a great note!

Okies... Thought I should show you some pictures of the new class... Enjoy...

The Difference Between a Fashion Designer & a Tailor...

 vs

SO I've been meaning to write on this topic for a while now.... and I finally decided to do so today after having yet another chat with a top don in the Fashion Industry who felt the same way I did about the craziness that goes on around here.

The first time I was asked this question was on some TV interview last year and of course I answered the question without batting an eyelid.  :-D  But since then, I have asked both new and practising designers the difference between the two terms and it turned out that  whilst everyone, more often than not, knew who a designer was, none of them actually got the definition of a tailor.

So here we are setting the record straight.... with of course "The University of Google", "The Internet Institute" & "The Wikipedia College" to support my claim.

Ok... so Here's a Challenge for You! Tell Me What You See Beyond The Stitches.

So I uploaded my first YouTube Video... YAYE!!!!!  I really don't know much about how it works...had to jack the help page but here's the link:  http://youtu.be/-Fi_BSjq7u4

Ok so ignore the fact that the video is a bit dark... I used the camcorder my amazing friend Beekay got me as a gift just for uploading YouTube videos (thanks Beekay!!!) and I guess we didn't do something right.  Oh I know!  We had to turn off some lights so the presentation could be sharper.  But anywayz... there you go! :-D

Not bad right?!  Oh by the way, that white dress on the right is one of those I made... just in case you guys think I cannot sew.  I did that ages ago though.... like in my Year 2.

Oh-kay! SO I started another set of classes last Saturday, the 14th.  Yup!  Despite all the craziness going on re the subsidy matter and contrary to popular belief, I refused to postpone the start date.  I guess that's what happens when you've planned your year in advance and you know that any slight change in that calendar will disrupt the whole year.  But I think I can also say I was lucky that there were no protests that day and seeing I already had the folders arranged the week before, I was good to go!  The power of prayers!

Right! So our Unofficial "National Holiday" is Over... WHAT NEXT?!

Imagine the shock when we all woke up this morning to see soldiers on Lagos streets... and of course the eventual revelation that the price of petrol was now N97 and that the strike was over!  Ok forget that I am quite upset that I can no longer sleep for hours on end and not feel guilty about it (which was my highlight of the "holiday"), I am MORE upset about the fact that Nigerians seem to have suddenly given up!  Just like that!

2012...

Hello Everyone!!!  Not sure if the "Happy New Year" greeting is still apt, 12 days into the new year but either way, seeing this is my first post of 2012, here I am wishing you a Happy New Year!

It has been quite a challenging start to the New Year for all of us.  The subsidy removal has completely thrown us all off balance and has managed to make the average Nigerian, including me, very angry, frustrated and totally stressed out.  It has thrown our financial forecasts out the window, made budgeting very difficult, significantly reduced our disposable income and increased our expenses significantly!  I was literally shocked when I paid N13,000 for petrol I used to pay N6,000 for and I tell you, I was really burnt!  In fact I was close to tears!  Ok... I promised myself I wouldn't talk about this as I will begin to get agitated again and really I didn't want my first post of the year filled with a lot of venom.  In fact that was the major reason I never posted anything before now.  Every time I came to my system, I knew I would have to address this issue and didn't want to get angry all over again!
