So Designers Connect was a HUGE success! 150 people and counting...

Yup!  I am elated!

The session took place at Trends the Kitchen in Lekki Phase 1 (view www.trends the kitchen.com), a stunning bar and lounge right by the 2nd roundabout (sorry to those who missed their way...) and there was enough space for everyone.  I am completely honoured that some people came in from outside town.  I had someone in from Abuja, another from Port Harcourt & one from Ilorin.  Someone was flying in from Benin but got delayed.  I am so thankful that you all plugged into this and it is very encouraging.  And I apologise to those who missed their way.  Unfortunately I couldn't pick any calls because the event started @ 3 sharp... [actually 3.10pm seeing I had a wardrobe malfunction at 2.55pm and I had to change into the same buba and skirt I had planned on wearing all along.  Turned out the outfit was a huge hit! :-D]

So what was the day about?!  A networking session.  Merging the fashion industry with business professionals in different fields who can actually help us move our businesses forward.  We have business consultants, PR experts, marketing experts, production factories, dealers in sewing machines, accountants, lawyers, photographers, pattern cutters, the media (to spot new talent), IT people, logistics personnel, fund providers, SME clinics, fashion marketers, bank personnel, fashion show producers, the Model of Africa... goodness.... the list is long!  That was why I needed your list of challenges!  So I could find experts in that field to address the particular issues you had one-on-one!

Ok... here's a quick run-through of events:

The day started off with MOI introducing myself and talking about the fashion industry and how we designers get it wrong!  THEN we had the President of FADAN (the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria) tell us what the vision of FADAN was and answer some questions the designers had.  Then Ohimai Atafo of Mai Atafo Inspired (MAI)  spoke about how fashion is really not a joke and get this... despite the fact that he is a notable name in the industry, he has not yet broken even! Now that was a wake-up call for many of us, including myself, which I believe put a lot of things into perspective.

Then we had the small break-out sessions where the designers approached the experts one on one and yes... the day pretty much sorted itself out from then on.  It was great having people approach me asking "oh... where's the marketing expert" and I pointed them in the direction of the expert.

Patrick Ayanski, specialists in trims and embellishments, gave out freebies (thank you so very much) and experts answered direct questions.

It was not a seminar like many assumed it would be, it was a forum where people met each other one on one and exchanged cards.  You guys must follow up on those calls!

The day ended formally @ 6pm but people still chilled till about 7pm; I left there @ say 9.30pm.

So what next?  PLEASE keep sending me your list of challenges.  I am working on so many projects and I need to know who requires these services.  If you are currently having problems in your fashion business, please let me know so I can find a way to work on it and proffer practical workable solutions, either through my in-house fashion advisory services or referrals to others who can help in this regard.

For those who didn't attend, don't worry about it.  We will have another one... but not too soon seeing people get tired of things quickly around here.  I just have to think of something newer to add a little spice next time.  BUT also PLEASE send in your details still so I can add you to the list and keep you informed of projects I or other people are handling that will address your challenges.

I will send out an e-mail detailing the services I offer that can tackle some issues you guys have, particularly in the area of production and fashion advisory services.  So you'll be hearing from me very soon!

I'd like to thank Mr Wale and Ms. Bassi of Trends the Kitchen for allowing me use their space.  I'd also like to thank Aunty Tewa of Exquisite Magazine for introducing me to them. You all are the very best!

To ALL the professionals who came.... I say thank you from the very depths of my heart.    You were all busy but you took time out to assist me bring my vision to life!  I cannot thank you enough!  Love you all to bits!  MWAH to infinity!

To all the participants who came, you guys were the major reason for the success of the event.  Thank you so much as well.  You didn't know me but believed in Designers Connect and this is the most encouraging of all.  Please post your comments so others can benefit from the insight the gathering gave you and of course... to also share how fab the event was. :-D  And if you don't, then I'll post all the thanks, prayers, comments and feedback I have received by e-mail, sms and BB.  (That must be the strangest threat I ever heard...)

The Fashion Entrepreneurship Course is on Saturday, 25th.  I'll put up another post very soon on this.  Get ready to turn your love for fashion to a viable business and register by paying the fees into the account!  People have already started registering and this is nothing compared to what the FEC is about!  So y'all should register sharply!  It definitely will be worth your while!

Cheers!

PS.  Y'all cannot believe I do not have one picture.  Ok well... I do have one of Ohimai in front of the Designers Connect banner but it's really dark!  Not to worry, I'll post pictures very soon and even a short video clip!
