Welcome Note!

Welcome to Martwayne! Yes this site is about fashion - no excuses for that - BUT we will be talking about fashion from a different perspective... as a tool for business success!

Everyone loves to look good and yes, majority of us love fashion! But we all know that fashion goes wayyyyy beyond stitching and there is a lot more to "it" than mere sewing!

"Fashion Beyond Stitches" will discuss how to turn your love for fashion into money-spinners, sharing knowledge, ideas and skills necessary to run successful fashion businesses.

Oh of course this blog will not be complete without our very own T.Williams ranting and raving about her personal challenges as a fashion entrepreneur in the Nigerian Fashion Industry. But don't worry, there are also happy days and all her personal stuff will be filed under the label "T.Williams".

SO enjoy, follow & subscribe to our blog, post your comments, ask questions, offer advice, and spread the link! Cheers!

Ok... so Here's a Challenge for You! Tell Me What You See Beyond The Stitches.

So I uploaded my first YouTube Video... YAYE!!!!!  I really don't know much about how it works...had to jack the help page but here's the link:  http://youtu.be/-Fi_BSjq7u4

Ok so ignore the fact that the video is a bit dark... I used the camcorder my amazing friend Beekay got me as a gift just for uploading YouTube videos (thanks Beekay!!!) and I guess we didn't do something right.  Oh I know!  We had to turn off some lights so the presentation could be sharper.  But anywayz... there you go! :-D

Not bad right?!  Oh by the way, that white dress on the right is one of those I made... just in case you guys think I cannot sew.  I did that ages ago though.... like in my Year 2.

Oh-kay! SO I started another set of classes last Saturday, the 14th.  Yup!  Despite all the craziness going on re the subsidy matter and contrary to popular belief, I refused to postpone the start date.  I guess that's what happens when you've planned your year in advance and you know that any slight change in that calendar will disrupt the whole year.  But I think I can also say I was lucky that there were no protests that day and seeing I already had the folders arranged the week before, I was good to go!  The power of prayers!

So anywayz...

The first session included a presentation on the opportunities in the fashion industry.  Yup!  I love the element of surprise on the participants' faces when they come in for their first lecture and they see a projector and a screen rather than threads and sewing machines.  Haha!  Needless to say the participants were very pleased with the class and are looking forward to the next one.  So the first lecture is really about getting the participants to understand the industry they are planning to get into.  I'm sure we all know that to succeed at anything, you need to study it in order to determine how to "cage the monkey" as we used to say in KPMG.

Right! So here's my Challenge!  Grab a sheet of paper and a pencil quickly.  Take a look at the 2 images below and tell me how many people you think made money from each of those pictures.  I believe there are at least 10 different career / business opportunities in each picture apart from the fashion designer?  Simply put...I am asking you to look beyond the clothes and answer the question...

What Do You See "Beyond the Stitches"?

Now now...no cheating... don't use the video to come up with your answers.  Write them down first before referring back to the video just in case you missed some.  You will be surprised at what you will come up with as alternative and viable sources of income from the Fashion Industry.

PS!  Ok now y'all need to start encouraging a sister now.  I know you guys read the blog...interestingly enough...more people outside Nigeria visit than within Nigeria.  I have the Stats.  However, not many post comments.  I'd love this blog to be really interactive SO can you guys start by posting your answers in the comments box?! Oh... and subscribe to and follow the blog via e-mail... The links are on the left side of the blog.  Mucho gracias! ;-)

Oh....by the way...I have a few spots open for those who still want to join this class.  We will have a catch-up class for this particular lecture for those who missed this this session.  However, another set of MFC1a and MBC1a Courses begin next Friday 27th & Saturday 28th respectively.  Looking forward to you guys joining the Class.
